Arielle Hernandez, PhD, MPH

Dr. Arielle Hernandez, PhD, MPH, is an epidemiologist specializing in global health, with a focus on the intersection of communicable and non-communicable diseases. She holds an MPH from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Texas School of Public Health, where her doctoral research evaluated Uganda’s national sickle cell screening program. Dr. Hernandez has held academic and leadership roles at institutions including Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Oregon Health & Science University, and currently, the New York University Grossman School of Medicine, where she serves as Assistant Director for AMPATH Ghana.

Her experience spans clinical research, program design, and epidemiologic surveillance across diverse global settings. She has been involved in major international studies such as the Uganda Sickle Surveillance Study and the NOHARM Phase III Clinical Trial (Novel Use of Hydroxyurea in an African Region with Malaria), while also contributing to tuberculosis and HIV research initiatives. Dr. Hernandez has taught epidemiology and public health at the graduate level and has supported global health policy development through partnerships with ministries of health and international organizations. Her work seeks to translate epidemiologic evidence into practice to strengthen health systems that are resilient and equitable.
